It took me a snap to think about the topic, It took me a second to think about the title, but it took me forever to finish everything; to weave the words, to organize ideas, and to create a dramatic flow. Though I’m not yet contented, I still think that this is sensible in a way. Let me share to you my last article for my column Metanioa, The Paulinian Publication. It is timely, as we (graduating students) welcome the real world, we should hold on to our dreams and make it the direction of our days.
“When you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it”
– The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho
Webster defines dream as something seen or thought in sleep. So, I assumed that dreams are just product of people’s unconscious mind. But how can humans think about something if he is in unconscious state, especially when he sleeps? Does this signify that things we want to think about are carried on in our sleep, or maybe dreams are just created for people’s wish fulfillment? Another definition is that, dreams are imagination, a frustrating fact for ultimate dreamers who create visualizations destined to materialize. But are dreams really just an imagination? Or does it have the potential to be our own reality?
Dreams are vital in our life’s journey, it is an aspiration that drives and motivates us to establish an ambition. Apart from doing what we want, dreams help us search for self fulfillment and purpose. As an individual, each of us has something to do, share, and contribute. God has prepared something for us no matter what way we choose or what directions we take. Sometimes, we see our dreams coming true in a very idealistic manner; we tend to create a leap from our visions to reality without knowing that, the process is the one that determines the substance; materialize our aspirations. Dreams are not met overnight; simply because it’s a daily task. It takes a lot of courage, faith, and wisdom to fulfill everything we want. Let me reiterate that dreams are achieved on a daily basis; therefore, we should fulfill it by making our dreams the focal point of our days. Take dreams as traffic lights, something that is part of our everyday encounters, something that we literally look up to, and something that we need to obediently follow. Like traffic lights, our dreams have their own light signals.
We enjoy a continuous journey with a green light, we find ways and search for directions in order to chase our dreams and see it revealed at the end of the road. As we journey, we encounter different kinds of people, people that may seem nothing to us and people that serves as an instrument for our dreams fulfillment. We don’t know what they are after to, we don’t even know what dreams are they chasing, what we just know is that, we are all on the same road, traversing the same street, not knowing if they would still be there as we make our next turn. We can not just freely go on with our lives, there will come a time that a red light would flash, telling us to stop. Probably, someone has to pass; someone has to move ahead of us. In moments like this, never get discouraged, because certainly, we will have our own time; our own moment to shine. Just put in mind that we gave way to someone who holds the chance and opportunity of a lifetime. We should always remember that patience is a virtue and we need to hold on to it in order to understand the quest to our dreams. More importantly, we should strengthen our perseverance as a value because it helps us surpass the unattainable, impossible, and unreachable. The momentary stop does not occur to delay or destroy our dreams, it also exists to give us time to think, learn, and process. It pays to value even a fraction given to us to seize what we have through a meaningful realization. With our busy life and pre-occupied minds, it’s relieving to give ourselves to God once in a while. Sometimes, a meaningful stop is all we need to find the missing pieces of our dream’s puzzle. And when we’ve done this, our heart and mind conspires to be unison in direction. Thus, revealing our desired reality beneath the watershed. There are times that as we journey, we are prepared for what will happen next. Traffic lights have the orange or amber signals that remind us that any moment, we need to go or stop. This signal maybe insignificant but I think that this is the most important thing in traffic lights. It creates anticipation and expectations, it exist in order to make execution safe and properly placed. Through this, we are warned and guided accordingly. In our quest for our dreams, we encounter signs and symbols that we use and equate to a certain relevant meanings. This orange light may just occur in a split of seconds but with this, significant twist and turn of events can change everything.
The roads we travel towards our dreams are exactly different from the others. Sometimes it’s rough, sometimes it’s smooth. There are times that we need to move, there are also times that we need to stay. But as we go on, we encounter our own traffic light reminding us that we need to follow something. We may deviate from what we need to follow, but it would create consequences that may delay and destroy our much wanted dreams. We may come across a lot of u-turns and detours, but if we are really determined, we will see our dreams waiting for us at the end of the road. But finding the end is not ending the dream; the life. It also signals a new beginning; a new start to face another dream. And when you already reach this state, never forget to look up again to your dream’s traffic light, because this light once helped you fulfill your aspirations. Continue to dream; aspire and inspire. Remember that stars are scattered in the night, and surely, one is shimmering just for you. Don’t keep them waiting, instead, make them sparkling.
True that dreams are imaginations; forms of wish fulfillment, but as a person, we have the power to turn visions in to reality. We have to put in mind, that if we want something, we have to earn it and if we have something, we have to deserve it.
And lastly, dreams are left frozen unless realized.
